If you want to get money out from your PayPal account, you can withdraw funds to your own bank account online or using the PayPal app. If you want to transfer the money online, here’s what you’ll need to do: Log into your PayPal account, and go to wallet. Click Withdraw money option. Or just inside the US. You can also get the Wise multi-currency debit card, which you can use to pay for goods and services all over the world. Pros: Once you’re set up and holding a balance, you can send money online with a click on your phone or computer. Money normally arrives the morning of the next business day.

If you have a Visa gift card in your possession for whatever reason it may be, you may be looking for way to turn it into cash and asking yourself, “Can I get cash back from a Visa Gift Card?”
A Visa gift card is almost as good as cash as it’s accepted almost everywhere, but sometimes, it’s nicer to hand cash in hand for other reasons. I get it.
Converting your Visa gift card into cash can be done, but you have to know how to do it because it isn’t as easy as going to the bank and asking for the cash. These gift cards don’t work like that, unfortunately.
While there are a variety of ways to do so, the terms will vary for each. The good news is that you can get cash for every strategy I mention, but one method may be easier for you than it is for me. I’ll leave it up to you to decide which strategy works best for you.
So, with all of that being said, let’s take a look at how you can turn a visa gift card into cash almost immediately.
Add It to Your PayPal Account
If you have a PayPal account (I’m sure you do), you can add prepaid cards, including Visa gift cards, to what’s known as your PayPal Wallet. When you add the funds from your PayPal prepaid card, you can shop at any retailer that accepts PayPal, or in your case, you can transfer the funds to your bank account and then cash out.
To send money from your Visa gift card to your PayPal, here’s how you can do it:
- After you log into your PayPal account, look for the “Wallet” link, which is located at the top of your page
- Click on “Link a card or bank” and continue to your prompts until you get to the point to link your card
- When PayPal asks for your credit card details, add your Visa gift card as you would your everyday credit card and click on “Link Card”
Keep in mind that this only works for a personal account. If you’re using a business account, you will not see the “wallet” option.
And, if you do have a personal account and are getting denied, then this means you will have to register your prepaid credit card so that the address on file matches your PayPal one. To do this, you can search for the issuer and type in “register” to see how to do it. It’s not that hard, I promise.
Add It to Your Venmo Account
Venmo is another app that works just like PayPal and it allows you to add your Visa gift card balance to your Venmo account, too. Honestly, I think it’s a better option as I found it to be easier to transfer your funds to a bank account much quicker and Venmo doesn’t charge a fee to transfer money to a bank account, unless you want it instantly.
To add your Visa gift card to your Venmo account, you will want to do the following:
- Tap the three lines in the top-left corner and click on “settings”
- Near the top, you should see an option for “payment methods”
- At the bottom, click on “add bank or card” and enter your prepaid card information when prompted
Most of the time, it will work, but in the case it doesn’t, it may mean, again, that your card isn’t registered and the address doesn’t match the one on your Venmo file.
Sell Your Visa Gift Card for Cash
I hate these options out of most because you won’t get 100% of your value, but with the right site, you could get up to 95% back. I would only consider this option if you don’t have a PayPal/Venmo or you don’t want to deal with the hassle of it.
To sell your Visa gift card for cash online, it’s relatively easy. Just head to one of the many sites I’m about to mention, ask for a quote and then follow the prompts if you want to sell it to them.
In most cases, you can get your cash almost instant while some may have a 24-48 hour waiting period. You should know the terms before you sell them, however.
If interested, here are some websites that buy Visa gift cards:
Again, don’t expect 100%. Instead, maybe 95% at most. For instance, I could get $22.50 for my $25 Visa gift card. You have to ask yourself if it’s worth it.
TIP: If you don’t want to sell your Visa gift card, you can trade them on these platforms, too!
Download the Prepaid2Cash App
The Prepaid2Cash App is a cool option if you want to turn your gift cards into cash and then transfer your funds to your bank account. The only caveat, however, is that they will only give you up to 92% of the gift card’s value, so you can’t expect the full amount. It’s okay if you don’t want to deal with the hassles of the previously mentioned tips.
Again, if you have a gift card you want to get rid of, not just a Visa gift card, the Prepaid2Cash app will help transfer your gift card funds to your bank.
To use, just scan your prepaid card, add a bank account, and then transfer the funds. In most cases, it can take up to 24 hours to receive your cash.
Buy a Money Order
Walmart and some grocery stores will let you buy gift cards using your Visa gift card. However, do keep in mind that it may be hard as many companies have cracked down. As I write this, the following places do let you buy a money order with a gift card:
- United States Post Office
- Walmart
- Western Union
If you’re able to cash out for a money order, then this is as good as cash since you can take it to your local bank and cash it as you would a check. Be sure to check out the many places that cash money orders right now if you’re not part of a bank.
Buying a money order with a prepaid Visa gift card is tough and many banks do raise red flags, so if you do plan on doing it, make sure you only do it once in a while.
And, as the last word in this section, if you do decide to use one of the establishments mentioned above, do call ahead of time to confirm.
Pay Yourself With Square
If you’re a freelancer of sorts and accept credit cards, then I highly recommend a Square reader if you don’t already have one. It’s a great way to swipe credit cards and get paid on the spot.
If you already have one or you’re interested in one, the reader is free and lets you accept credit cards anywhere as long as you have your smartphone. Generally, you can get paid the next day.
In this case, you could pay yourself with the gift card’s full value, but you will have to pay a fee in doing so, usually 2.6% + $0.10. Nonetheless, it’s a quick way to get cash if need be, but I would only do so if you have the reader and use them consistently. If you sign up to do this, you may get a warning email.
Sell It on eBay
This is a risky one, but it’s one that can pay off as long as you sell right.
If you’re going to sell on eBay, you won’t get the full value, but you will get the most out of all the options I mention, except for PayPal and Venmo.
If you’re going to sell on eBay, just make sure you send the gift card physically through the mail. That way, you have proof that you sent the gift card and they received it.
As there are a lot of scams in the gift card world, I would hate for you to get scammed as it has happened to me in the past. Generally, as long as you mail it and let your seller know, eBay should protect you, at least I hope.
Sell to a Friend or Family Member
This could be one that nets you cash fast, but like the options above, you may have to take a hit to get rid of it. Maybe offer your $25 card for $23.
Hit up Facebook or just ask around. You never know who might take you up on the offer. Of course, only deal with those who you trust.
Offer to Pay and Get Reimbursed
The next time you’re out and about, offer to pay for the meal/product and ask to be reimbursed.
For instance, if you’re going out to eat with a friend, say you can pick up the tab but they can pay their portion. This way, you can pay using a card and get cash on top of it. Win-win, right?
To me, a Visa gift card is almost as good as cash. After all, almost everyone accepts Visa today and it’s easy to buy what you need. If you’re going to make a purchase, just use it. That’s as good as cash, right? Even if your purchase is $60 and you only have $50, the retailer will punch it in so that you can use $50 and wipe out your card.
Unless you need cash in hand, there’s no need to convert your Visa gift card to cash unless you desperately need the cash for other reasons. If you have to do, I highly recommend you go either the PayPal or Venmo route. It can take a few days to get your cash, but it’s the best way to see cash show up in your bank account.
